Press Release Regarding The Elections For The People’s Assembly Held In Egypt, 24 January 2012 , 26.01.2012

We welcome the announcement of the official results of the People’s Assembly elections held in three phases in Egypt between 28 November 2011 and 11 January 2012.
We wish that these results announced at a period while Egypt is preparing to celebrate the anniversary of the 25 January Tahrir Revolution would be auspicious for the friendly and brotherly people of Egypt. We also wish a successful session to the People’s Assembly, which held its first meeting on 23 January.
An important phase has been left behind in Egypt’s democratic transformation process through the realization of the People’s Assembly elections in a peaceful environment. ln the period ahead, the holding of the Shura Council elections , drafting of the new Constitution and the holding of the Presidential elections are being envisaged. It is our most sincere wish that this process which will define Egypt' future would be completed on the basis of democratic legitimacy and the spirit of national unity and compromise.
It is our firm belief that our Egyptian brothers will conclude this sensitive and difficult transition process successfully and emerge even stronger; present a new social contract based on the premise of constitutional democracy and respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms of all elements across the social spectrum. It is essential that the international community should provide all necessary support to Egypt, particularly in the socio-economic field.
Turkey will continue to support Egypt's democratic transition and transformation process which is of utmost importance for the future of the entire Middle East region.
